Saving money, inspiring others, managing weight, gaining new culinary skills, lowering your stress level… All these and many other benefits when you meal prep your favorite, healthy food in advance.
The advantage of proactively weekly meal prep is actually cooking sane food with a high nutritional intake and with relatively few calories – depending on the ingredients. Other advantages are saving time, saving money on grocery bills, but above all, you will feel better thru the days.
Not to mention the overall degree of long-term satisfaction while reaching your goals more easily.
Dedicate a little time to find prep meals ready recipes, a phenomenon that has gained momentum especially among millennials because of their desired fitness goals.
Start small.
You don’t have to prepare hundreds of dishes. Start with a breakfast and/or a snack. You will spend 30 minutes to 1 hour on average per week and this will make a difference on all aspects I’ve listed already.
Plan the cooking day ahead.
You will have to work on meal prep like any other routine. Set a weekly reminder. You can choose a day that is more convenient to cook and organize. I am sure that, once you have started, you will feel exceptional, gain time for yourself, for your family, time that is very valuable in front of so many daily choices or routines.
Find favorite recipes that you can cook quickly.
Cook any food you like. Cook high carb food if you love sports, do that! – Make pasta, pizza, beans, cabbage, lentils, etc. We can use some recipes apps and have the possibility to customize our meal prep through EatThisMuch – this application can send us recipes on autopilot based on our preferences.
It can be very helpful in our process and it is easy enough to choose the type of diet we prefer, we can tick some boxes if we have allergies or choose the calories range. (You can also check your BMR calories, here – we want to make sure we are on track with our fitness goals).
Conservation and serving:
- Prepare the food, store it in containers, check the recipe and see if the sauces can be stored next to the food or added.
- Food can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days, but we need be careful, if it doesn’t look, smell or taste good, it can make us sick.
- Microwave until steaming hot and enjoy.
